The two lovers find themselves torn apart by the turmoil of the times and the trial of Alfred Dreyfus on treason charges. Through his characters, Gold explores Jewish identity in Europe and the Middle East. To some, the Temple of Solomon may hold the secret to great wealth and golden treasures, but to many others it is a powerful symbol of cultural identity meant to be preserved and protected.
